Richmond takes Smart Cities spotlight Friday

Richmond will be in the national spotlight
Friday as Infrastructure Canada highlights the finalists in the Smart Cities
Challenge.
Reflecting on the city’s innovative
submission, Mayor Malcolm Brodie said the competition has opened the doors to
new opportunities and partnerships “to use technology and data to make our
community safer, protect our environment and improve livability.”
“We are already moving forward on a number of
projects,” he said.
The Smart Cities Challenge is a national
competition created by Infrastructure Canada that encourages communities to
improve the lives of their residences through innovation, data and connected
technology. Richmond is a finalist for one of two $10 million prizes. Winners
will be announced May 14.
Richmond’s proposalenhances emergency
response coordination and day-to-day delivery of key local services, and
mitigate the impacts of climate change.
